High Performance File System
- Designed by MS and IBM to overcome the
shortcommings of the FAT filesystem
- Based on UNIX-like Fnodes and B-trees
- Designed for larger harddisks ( > 100 MiB)
- More redundancy, less sensitive to crashes
- B-trees, fragmentation is less of a problem
- Implemented as Installable Filesystem with
dedicated caching (HPFS.IFS, HPFS386.IFS)
